First click a level of difficulty, and then try to eliminate all the boxes (removing all checks) to win. When you check a box, all the squares around it (one above, one below, and one to each side) are unchecked. You can play in five different levels of difficulty ... Careful, it's not easy, and it's very addictive. Hint: work in patterns.
