... 'Twas the Night of Thanksgiving ...

this page to a friend. 'Twas the night of Thanksgiving, but I just couldn't sleep I tried counting backwards, I tried counting sheep.
The leftovers beckoned ... the dark meat and white, but I fought the temptation with all of my might.
Tossing and turning with anticipation, The thought of a snack became infatuation.
So, I raced to the kitchen, flung open the door And gazed at the fridge, full of goodies galore.
I gobbled up turkey and buttered potatoes, pickles and carrots, beans and tomatoes.
I felt myself swelling so plump and so round, Till all of a sudden, I rose off the ground.
I crashed through the ceiling, floating into the sky With a mouthful of pudding and a handful of pie
But, I managed to yell as I soared past the trees.... Happy eating to all ... pass the cranberries, please. |
Hitting the Mall the Day after ThanksgivingIf you're among the thousands of holiday shoppers who flock to the mall on this busiest shopping day of the year (someplace you'll never find me), you can do several things to prepare for the crowds:>- Prepare your list ahead of time. Spend the evening prior checking sales ads for price comparisons.
- Start early. The early riser gets the best deals? Maybe, maybe not, but plan a schedule and stick to it.
- Be patient. Don't allow traffic snarls, rude shoppers, and frustrated sales clerks to ruin your day.
- Save your sales receipts. A sales receipt is usually necessary for returns and/or exchanges.
- Stick to your budget. Don't overspend -- no matter how tempting. Stop every once in awhile and ask yourself, "What are holidays all about?" Discuss this question with friends and relatives; it might lead to interesting (and beneficial) changes in family traditions -- not necessarily appreciated by store owners.
- Be aware of your surroundings. Stay in well-lit and well-traveled areas. Keep your purse with you at all times. Place your packages in the trunk, not in the back seat.
- Prepare your children for shopping. Talk openly with your children about what to expect at the mall, and what they should do if they get lost. If you have older children, plan a place to meet if you should become separated.
- Don't forget to grab a bite to eat before you head off to the mall. It is important to maintain your stamina for an all-day shopping spree.
